Park & Ride or use Route #16

Want to avoid the Traffic of the event & help reduce the emissions of so many vehicles? Many of the roads near the park will be CLOSED for the heavy pedestrian traffic. There are so many Options for getting to the event without driving all the way in.

Anyone using the RTC Park & Ride shuttles, riding RTC route to event, registering for Trip Match or using the Bike Valets gets a FREE prize raffle ticket. Collect from the shuttle stop origin, at the RTC booth, or Reno Bike Project and Kiwanis Bike Program booths.

PARK & RIDE with RTC!  Park at McQueen High School, Clayton Middle School, or Court St. free parking lot downtown & RTC will take you to the event and back. Look for the Reno Earth Day Shuttle Stop in the parking lot. Buses run every 15-20 minutes.

RTC is offering FREE service ALL DAY – ALL ROUTES – for Earth Day – Ride the Bus to the event from ANYWHERE using the RTC system. Route #16 drops off at the park.

The streets near the event become extremely congested and the following Road Closures will be in effect this year:

  • Northbound off ramp from Keystone Dr. to Riverside
  • Riverside Dr. from Vine to Booth
  • Booth St. from Riverside to Foster
  • Idlewild Dr. from Booth to Hunter Lake
  • All streets/lots within the park will be closed

To access the event with vehicles, all participants and attendees should approach the event from the North, use the Keystone bridge to cross the river and come down from California Ave, or from the West.  Park at Reno High School or any parallel street parking not within the closure area. Limited ADA parking is available with a permit on Idlewild Dr. westbound between Cowan and the pool.

Alternative transportation modes are highly recommended.

Walk or ride the Riverwalk! Idlewild Park sits right on the Truckee River Riverwalk, with the river trail path hugging the edge of the park. Walk the safe route or ride your bike.

Park & BIKE or Walk from UNR’s North Lot (Virginia & McCarran), County Lot on COURT St. or from any school or Park along the way (Roy Gomm, McKinley Arts Center, County Court St. lot downtown, etc.)

Many Spokes for Many Folks (MS4MF) – Ride a scheduled group bike ride from various points of the compass directly to the event. Don’t want to start so early? Use the plotted safe route any time during the day and head right to the event. At the event, check out bicycle resources and activities at the event, and use free bike valet from Kiwanis Bike Program and Reno Bike Project.

PARK & RIDE from McQueen, Clayton or Court St, described above OR ride ANY RTC route to the transfer station and choose RTC route #16 which drops off right at Idlewild Park!

Rideshare!  RTC’s TRIP MATCH allows you to find other people coming to the event. Register now with Idlewild Park or Reno Earth Day as one of your destinations and let the matching begin!

CARPOOL – Bring as many people in one vehicle as possible! Parking in the area is limited! If you are driving, note there is no public parking within the park or on the closed streets.

FREE PARKING (fills up quickly!) at Reno High School 1/2 block away. Shuttles run from the Reno High lots to the park from noon until 6pm.

Additional free parking within walking distance = Federal Bldg on Booth, County Court lot on Court St. & Sierra downtown, McKinley Arts Center, Wingfield Park…

ADA parallel parking on Idlewild Dr. -westbound/parkside curb between Cowan Dr. entrance (aka Gate C) and pool – closed street accessed with handicap parking permit only.

Remember – whether in the park or anywhere in the neighborhood, if you’re idling, TURN THE KEY!  Be IDLE FREE AT IDLEWILD!
